Antietam National Battlefield

Andy and I headed over to Antietam for a Saturday.  Not much to see as you might at Gettysburg, but we still got a nice view of the surrounding area.

Remember the Rev. Gladys the morning we went to Antietam?

Saw that day one of the original “Crown” monuments of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Stuffed ourselves at a Ryan’s Buffet.

The 2 ½ hour ranger talk. He rode in a golf cart—ranger mobile. But good interpreter.

Antietam opened the way for Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, effectively ending any chance of the Confederacy to be recognized by any European powers.

By the way, did I tell you Doris gave me a genuine Confederate bill when I was in Ireland? The Confederacy had done a lot of business with Great Britain, and I suspect the currency was from that time. She’s had it for years. No great value, but I’d like you to have it.

That was also the night of your attempt to make popcorn on the camp stove. Burn ‘em fast or burn ‘em slow, but burn they did.
